Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara

Very apt title for the movie which explains how life doesn't give you a second chance.

I watched this movie yesterday but would not want to talk about the flick but I would like to write about the two characters portrayed in the movie.

Arjun & Laila . Arjun being played by Hrithik Roshan and Laila , symbolic to that name acted by Katrina Kaif.

Arjun , a successful financial broker works in London and money is his only dream . He wants to earn a lot  & retire by 40 , until then work is his world & nothing else is appreciated including love. His side of the argument is that Money spins everything in this world. He only sees a tiny part of what life is all about , even though his personal life is falling apart , yet he doesn't seem to understand why it is happening to him.

Laila , on the other hand follows what she likes in her life , which in this case being diving . She follows what her instinct tells her & is happy with what she does.

The movie portrays these two characters as their way of looking at life are two parallels until one particular scene when Laila asks Arjun, what does he want in life? Arjun replies money. I want more money and retire at 40 .

Laila thinks for a split second and asks him , what is the guarantee that you"ll live until 40? Arjun clearly doesn't have any answer and is submissive in this discussion. Laila goes on to say that every breath is a gift and enjoy this moment. Do not loose this moment to catch something else later as there is no guarantee that a later moment will arrive and if it does arrive whether or not you'll be alive to reap the reward of the moment.

This has been ringing in my ears since last night. These two characters in the movie isn't fictitious , there are number of people in real life who have similar issue.

In fact most of us do. We probably do not understand what our lives priorities are. Most often than not we get carried away by the materialistic pleasures such as owning a villa, a car , high end laptop, LED TV & chase money as if our life solely depends on it.

Given my finite experience of life , i can see Arjuns argument but would like to dive deeper into Laila's  justification of life . Am still thinking how do we balance our life . Should  life to be lived on the basis of what we aspire or what we need or guided by our gut instinct?

I have no clear answer yet , neither am i sure to find that out any time soon.

These two characters have made me think life from a very different angle.

Am going to keep the thought process going. Until then if you can think and open up the discussion , you are more than welcome to do so.

Mother Nature

Yep, she is the most beautiful & powerful person anyone would ever come across in one's life,

Last week i was in the Island of Portland and witnessed some of the most remarkable landscapes i have ever seen .

The remarkable hill from which the sight of the Chesil beach was a treat to watch , the Chesil beach is a part of the historic  Jurassic coast along the south coast of mainland UK and is considered a UNESCO world heritage site.

http://www.chesilbeach.org/

The endless kilometers of turquoise water front is such wonderful sight that it takes one's breath away. You could call it romantic, beautiful , brilliant, vivid any number of superlatives cannot match the sight it is just an extraordinary.

I spent one whole day in the Isle of Portland and was treated to some magical sights such as a the Durdle pier , in which one comes out of a long walk beneath closed view just to be led to a magical coast and the sight just numbed me . I was just speechless.

I left the place thinking this was mother nature at her brilliant best , how wrong i was .

This afternoon i was watching a programme on BBC FOUR called The Blue Planet , narrated by the famous Dr David Attenborough .

I must say , this programme is a must watch . Lives of flora and fauna under sea below 4 kms from the surface was shown with such striking detail that i was at awe on how such thing could even exist where light does not even penetrate .

Bear in mind that sunlight do not go beyond 150 meters below the surface of the ocean and i was seeing creatures and plankton's living at around 4000 meters.

What took me by storm were two things

1 The programme showed a hot steaming rock at around 3000 meters pouring out water along with hydrogen and sulphur at temperature of 450 degree when the water temperature at in the surrounding area is close to 4 degrees, it was sheer magic.

2 A swamp of area under gulf of mexico at around 4000 meters where there is a 20 mile lake full of mussels , life where there is no light . These mussels are not like the conventional one but live off the methane being vented out from the surface.

What was awe-inspiring was the undisturbed magnificence of life at such depth &ample opportunity for creatures to co-exist for hundreds of years ; there are only handful of submarines around the world ,  which could reach such depths for research purposes . In fact the programme ended with the phrase that
" Mankind know about the moon more than they know about the plains below the water surface".

Who knows what's in store for us in the near future, maybe conventional clean energy from the ocean floor might be a possibility!

In the recent weeks i have seen both sides of Mother nature, the nasty force in which she can shake mankind in the form of Tsunami or earthquake and the beautiful landscape that she has created for her children (mankind) to enjoy.

I can safely conclude that mother nature goes out to prove to us  time & again that if properly treated we can live happily and also let others (flora & fauna) live happily as well, which has always been the essence of life .

Lets enjoy what mother nature has provided to us and also ensure that we protect what has been given to us and if possible invest and increase our natural wealth for generations to come.
